Extending Your Stay
The Destination Thailand Visa (DTV) allows digital nomads to stay in Thailand for up to 180 days per entry, over a 5-year multiple-entry period. If you’d like to stay longer, you have two options: apply for a 180-day extension in Thailand, or do a border run to reset your stay.

Approval Discretion:
Extensions are subject to the discretion of the immigration officer. Ensure all documents are complete and accurate to facilitate approval.
Option 2: Border Run
Eligibility: DTV holders seeking to reset their 180-day stay by exiting and re-entering Thailand.
Procedure:
-
Exit Thailand:
Travel to a neighboring country by land or air. -
Re-Enter Thailand:
Upon re-entry, present your valid DTV visa to the immigration officer. You will receive a new 180-day stamp.
Considerations:
-
No Additional Paperwork:
A border run typically doesn’t require additional documentation beyond your passport and DTV visa. -
Frequency:
There is no official limit to the number of times you can perform a border run; however, frequent exits and re-entries may attract scrutiny from immigration officials. -
Planning:
Ensure you are aware of the entry requirements of the neighboring country you plan to visit, even if it’s for a short duration.
Which Option Is Best?
For most people, doing a border run is the easiest choice. It’s faster, cheaper, and gives you a great excuse to explore a nearby country. ✈️ Take a quick vacation — enjoy life!
