The Thailand Digital Nomad Visa (DTV) is designed to allow remote workers, freelancers, and online entrepreneurs to legally live and work in Thailand. Before applying, it’s important to understand the categories available, financial requirements, and how to apply.

Choosing the Right Category
When applying for the DTV Visa, you must select the appropriate category that best aligns with your situation. There are three main categories:
1. Workcation & Freelancer Category
This category is ideal for individuals working remotely for a foreign company or as freelancers serving international clients.
- Employment Restrictions: You cannot be employed by a Thai company or have Thai clients.
- Proof Required:
- A contract from an overseas employer or
- A portfolio demonstrating freelance work or
- Other proof of self-employment, such as invoices or tax returns

2. Soft Power Category
This category is intended for individuals participating in activities such as Muay Thai training, Thai cooking courses, or long-term medical treatment.
- Course or Treatment Requirement: Applicants must provide proof of enrollment in a recognized course or a medical treatment plan spanning several months.

3. Dependent Visa for DTV Holders
Spouses and children of a DTV Visa holder can apply under this category.
- Who Qualifies: Only legally married spouses and children.
- Proof Required:
- Marriage certificate (for spouses)
- Birth certificate (for children)

Universal Requirements
Regardless of the category, all applicants must meet a financial stability requirement:
- Application Fees of at least 10 000 baht. Exact amount varies depending on Embassy / Consulate. Non-refundable
- You must have at least 500,000 THB (or equivalent) in a personal bank account.
- Business or investment accounts are not accepted.
- A sponsorship letter may also be considered as an alternative, as per official guidelines.
Where to Apply
The DTV Visa application is submitted online through Thailand’s eVisa System, and applications are processed by the Thai Embassy or Consulate in the country you apply from.
- Global Access: You can apply from anywhere in the world.
- Residency Requirement: Some embassies allow applications from tourists, while others require residency status in the country where you apply.
- No In-Person Applications: As of now, Thai embassies and consulates no longer accept in-person visa applications.
